Verse 11 gives us two ways of making money and two ways of using it. It can be made dishonestly (literally ‘by vanity’) or little by little (literally ‘by hand’). This seems like a contrast between earned and unearned income. The latter might be made dishonestly—by theft or sharp practice; by gambling, which fits ‘vanity’ quite well, indicating a very easy way of making money; or more respectably by inheritance.
